Samuel Jackson had a difficult start in life as his father was an alcoholic who was not present. His mother a factory worker, raised him with his grandmother. He experienced racial segregation and later in life fought for black rights. He worked as a social worker before turning to acting. He got his big break in his 40’s becoming when playing in Quentin Tarantino’s famous cult movie Pulp Fiction. According to Forbes, he is ranked number 13, in the highest-paid actor in the world, with a net worth of $250 million.

Colonel Harland David Sanders

Colonel Sanders did not have a good start in life as his father died when he was only 5 years old. He had a difficult time in school and quit while still a teenager. According to Wikipedia, Sanders held a number of jobs in his early life, such as insurance salesman, steam engine stoker, and filling station operator. None of them worked out for him. It was when he was in his late 60’s that he decided to start a small business selling fried chicken and by the time that he was in his 80’s he became a billionaire. It’s never too late.

Sam Walton

Born on a farm and growing up during the depression, Sam did many chores while growing up such as milking the family cow and selling the milk surplus. He was always a hard worker and always thought about providing for his family. His perseverance paid off when he opened the first Walmart in 1962 at the age of 44.

Ray Kroc

According to Wikipedia, Ray Kroc Turned McDonald’s into the most successful fast-food corporation in the world.

He was 52 years old when he finally hit it big with McDonald’s. During his youth, he served in world war one, by lying about his age. He was only 15 years old at the time that he got training with the Red Cross, and was sent overseas in 1918 to serve as an ambulance driver.

According to Wikipedia, Kroc was included in Time 100: The most important people of the century*and amassed a multi-million dollar fortune during his lifetime. He owned the San Diego Padres baseball team from 1974 until his death in 1984.

Soichiro Honda

Soichiro Honda is the Founder of the Honda Motor Company. Although he had no formal education, he learned much from his father’s bicycle repair shop and at 15 years old managed to obtain an apprenticeship at a garage. He then worked as a mechanic and eventually started his own auto repair business.

Because of his experience as a mechanic, he was able to build a motorcycle in the 40s, by creating an engine and attaching it to a bicycle.

He was 42 years old when he formed the Honda Motor Company and eventually became the leading motorcycle manufacturer in the world.

J. K. Rowling

She is best known for writing the Harry Potter fantasy series, which has won multiple awards and sold more than 500 million copies. She went through a very difficult period where she experienced the death of her mother, birth of her first child, divorce from her first husband, and relative poverty until the first novel in the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, was published in 1997.

Ridley Scott

He was born shortly before the Second World War, he was brought up in an army family. He rarely saw his father throughout his early life. He was working in commercials in the 70s until he had a breakthrough with the movie Alien, in 1979. Alien was the sixth highest-grossing film of that year, earning over $104 million worldwide. He was in his 40’s.

Barack Obama was the 44th president of the United-States, from 2009 to 2017.
